East Germany’s Communists never pass up a chance to point their Red fingers at the former Nazis holding some 20% of the places in West Germany’s Bundestag, and the two former Nazi Party cardholders in Chancellor Konrad Adenauer’s Cabinet. Day after day East German newspapers headline: NAZI MURDERERS UNDER BONN’S PROTECTION, or NAZIS AS DEPUTIES. Last week Berlin’s “Investigating Committee of Free Jurists,” making no effort ta defend Bonn’s tolerance of ex-Nazis, published a look-who’s-talking report about Nazis in high places in East Germany, listing name, rank and party-card-number documentation. At least 28 of the 400 members of the East German lower house, the report showed, including Volkskammer Vice President Heinrich Homann, were once active members of the Nazi Party, and there are also two ex-Nazis in East Germany’s as well as West Germany’s Cabinet.
