THE ECONOMY: Level Price Index?

For twelve months the Government’s Consumer Price Index, official thermometer of the U.S. cost of living, has risen steadily, in August reached a record high of 121.0 (1947-49 =100). Last week, tabulating a new index to show September costs, theBureau of Labor Statistics predicted a mild break. Though the price of servicescontinues higher, the price of food is tapering. Probable result: an at-long-last leveling off of consumer costs.
