Louisiana’s Republicans also made some news last week. In New Orleans,pro-Eisenhower candidates came out ahead in 14 of 24 contests for theRepublican Parish Executive Committee and won ten out of 56 seats onthe State Central Commit tee. Neither of these bodies chooses delegatesto the national convention, but the returns did seem to indicate a dentin the ironclad control exercised by pro-Taft National CommitteemanJohn E. Jackson. On the basis of last week’s result, Jackson’s rival,John Minor Wisdom, said that half the state’s 15 delegates would be forIke. Jackson, however, seemed certain to hold at least nine andprobably more.
