Canada at War: Beef

Canada’s ambitious plan for shipping 100,000,000 Ibs. of beef to Britain in 1944 and 1945 had struck a snag. Labor shortages made it impossible for packing plants to process the meat. Result: surplus. The 1942 ban on beef exports to the U.S. was now almost sure to be lifted, permitting some 200,000 beef cattle to reach U.S. plants annually. This was not much, but in the beef hungry U.S., it would help.
