Once Spears was on the awards show circuit, she started running into Madonna “all over the world.” Later, when Spears decamped in Cher’s old NoHo apartment, Madonna droppedby for a visit. “She walked into the place and immediately, of course, she owned the room. I remember thinking, _it’s Madonna’s room now_,” Spears writes. In Madonna, Spears found a mentor. “Madonna’s supreme confidence helped me see a lot about my situation with fresh eyes. I think she probably had some intuitive sense of what I was going through. I needed a little guidance at that time,” she writes.
