Jessica Chastain Takes on Twitter Trolls to Defend Women’s Healthcare

Jessica Chastain isn’t afraid to take on Twitter trolls or the Trump Administration when it comes to women’s healthcare.

On Sunday, the Academy Award-nominee and proud feminist tweeted a link to an article that quoted White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer saying that mandatory coverage — such as maternity care — under Obamacare was driving up health insurance costs. “A 54-year-old doesn’t need certain things,” Spicer said. “They don’t need maternity care… They don’t need certain medical services that are being provided to them by this government product that is being forced on them right now.”

Chastain clearly doesn’t agree with Spicer. “Some men dont want to pay for women’s health, but sorry, you wouldnt be here without us,” Chastain wrote. “Time to show honor & respect for your mothers guys.”

Her tweet received some less-than-positive responses. One Twitter user named “Mark” said that Chastain was being “so patronising [sic] and condescending,” reports Refinery29. Another user named “Steven” hit back with, “Female Republicans don’t want to pay for womens health either. This is about political/religious beliefs, not gender”

But Chastain wasn’t having it. She responded: “Please Steven, tell me more about what women want. I need your insight,” and “Thank you Mark for teaching me about feminism.”
