Gloria Steinem Wants Women to Keep Fighting After the Women's March

Gloria Steinem says it’s important for women to keep organizing after the historic Women’s March on Washington.

In an interview with New York Magazine after Saturday’s march, the famed feminist, who served as an honorary co-chair for the protest, said it’s crucial that women don’t lose momentum in the fight against Donald Trump. “Don’t worry so much about what you should do — just do whatever you can,” Steinem said.

One concrete thing activists can do? As the GOP hopes to defund Planned Parenthood, Steinem says it’s possible to aid the women’s health organization — with your own money. “We can deduct from our income tax what should go to Planned Parenthood, send it to Planned Parenthood, and say, ‘Come get me,'” Steinem said. “There are more of us than there are of them.”

Steinem said that the event sent a clear message that Trump isn’t in charge — a message that she doesn’t want marchers to forget.

“It’s important to understand that he doesn’t represent [us],” she said. “I think it’s dangerous to look up and think he holds all the power. If we look at each other, we understand that’s not true.”
