Undoubtedly, an large amount of planning has gone into making sure inauguration day runs smoothly, but one small detail was overlooked.
When Donald and Melania Trump arrived at the White House with a Tiffany & Co. blue gift box for President Obama and First Lady Michelle, there was no one on hand to whisk the present away.
After glancing around for someone who could hold the gift while the four posed for photos, Obama ended up taking the box, tied in a white satin ribbon, inside himself. “I’ll take care of the protocol here,” he joked to the onlookers present.
Following the slightly awkward moment, Michelle Obama and Melania Trump, wearing a powder blue Ralph Lauren ensemble, put their arms around each other to pose for photos on the White House steps with their respective husbands.
Many took to social media to express amusement at the awkward exchange. “From Melania’s weird handshake-to-hug and Michelle’s not knowing where to put the Tiffany gift, this is painfully awkward and funny,” wrote on Twitter user.
