Actress Scarlett Johansson has had a pretty good year — and a recent study indicates her year was better than anyone else in Hollywood. According to Forbes, she was the highest grossing actor of 2016, thanks to her roles in Captain America: Civil War and Hail Caesar!
Johansson’s films grossed $1.2 billion, while her male co-stars of Captain America came in at $1.15 billion. Margot Robbie and Amy Adams rounded out the top five list, meaning women dominated box offices, which doesn’t reflect how much money the actors made in salary.
Earlier in 2016, Johansson surpassed the record to become the highest-grossing actress in box office history, as her films have brought in $3.3 billion throughout her career. Though her films have been successful, fans wonder if she’s made equitable salaries compared to her male co-stars. She told Cosmopolitan that she’s hesitant to talk about the wage gap in Hollywood: “There’s something icky about me having that conversation unless it applies to a greater whole.”
