Rachel Maddow pressed Kellyanne Conway on President-elect Donald Trump’s nuclear policy.
Conway, Trump’s campaign manager who was recently appointed counselor to the president, sparred with Maddow over Trump’s intentions with his recent tweets about how the U.S. should “expand and strengthen” its nuclear capability. Maddow said that the tweet was making new policy on Twitter.
“I don’t think the tweet was groundbreaking,” Conway said. “He is making a point that this is about nuclear proliferation in the face of rogue nations and regimes that are stockpiling weapons… We have to be able to keep ourselves safe and secure. When others stop building their nuclear weapons, we’ll feel more safe.”
“I think a lot of the people are hiding under the bed right now because it doesn’t seem like he knows what he’s talking about on this issue,” Maddow said.
“That’s not fair,” Conway said. “He is talking about keeping us safe and secure.”
