New York City police are looking for a man who stole a bucket filled with $1.6 million worth of gold flakes from the back of an armored truck in Manhattan.
Surveillance footage released by police showed the unidentified man taking the 86-lb. bucket from the unattended open truck in midtown Manhattan on Sept. 29 when a guard reportedly went to the truck’s cab to get his cellphone, the New York Times reported.
The thief took the bucket and made off down West 48 Street, struggling a little under the weight. Police said it took him an hour to make it to Third Avenue, where he disappeared. Authorities believe he is in Florida, but he is still at large.
