Last week, Star Wars fans learned that the force was long awakened between co-stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. Fisher, who appeared on TODAY, told Savannah Guthrie that she was “surprised at the reaction” over the news of her “intense” affair with Ford.
Fisher opens up about the tryst in her new memoir, The Princess Diarist, which contains excerpts from old journals she kept while on set. Fisher explained that she wrote in the journals while she was “upset,” and the affair was about two to three “months of upset.” She called their rendezvous “a three-month one-night stand.”
Fisher also explained that she didn’t “make the first move” on Ford. She recalled, “I was tipsy and I was surprised.” During this time, Ford was already married and Fisher was only a teenager. Rules, however, didn’t seem to apply: “But when you’re on location — this is something I discovered — everything is permitted.”
Ford was given a copy of Fisher’s book before the news of their romance went public, but Fisher is unsure if he read it. Ford is “incredibly private,” she said. “I feel really bad about doing that too [sic] him.”
