A daycare provider in Minneapolis attempted to hang a toddler before causing two traffic accidents and threatening to jump off an overpass on Friday.
The 16-month-old boy she hanged survived and is “doing fine,” Minneapolis Assistant Police Chief Kris Arneson told reporters, according to Twin Cities Pioneer Press, and no other children were harmed. When another child’s parent found and rescued the boy, she called the police.
After the daycare provider hanged the child and fled she scene, she struck a pedestrian in her minivan and dragged him for several blocks, who suffered broken bones and was taken to the hospital. She then struck a bicyclist, who has also been hospitalized.
Police caught up with the woman when they were alerted to her threatening to jump into the interstate from an overpass. She’s now in custody.
“We don’t know what was happening with her,” Minneapolis Assistant Police Chief Kris Arneson said of the “horrific” events. “As soon as we can talk to her, we should be able to ascertain what was happening.”
