Watch Peanut the Baby Panda Take Her First Adorably Clumsy Steps

Four-month-old Peanut the panda is bringing joy to many today.

The 15-lb. fur ball, born in captivity at the Shanghai Wild Animal Park to 20-year-old mother panda Guo Guo, recently took her first steps—all captured on film, of course. If you like pandas, delightfully clumsy creatures, baby animals, or good things in the world, then you’ll probably want to take a look at the heartwarming video. Highlights include a failed attempt to perch on her hind legs and a cozy mother-daughter cuddle. Peanut, whose name was chosen in a public poll, is one of a lucky few bred-in-captivity panda cubs like Washington, D.C.’s baby panda Bei Bei who have become iconic representations of the embattled species. Aside from zoo-bred pandas, 67 protected panda reserves worldwide have helped the unique species elevate itself off of the endangered species list in the last year.
