The trailer for T2: Trainspotting begins much in the same way as the trailer for the original movie, released in 1996, with a sober voiceover enjoining us to “choose life.” And then it shows its age: “Choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.” “Choose looking up old flames, wishing you’d done it differently.” The sequel reunites director Danny Boyle, screenwriter John Hodge (nominated for an Oscar for the first film) and the stars of the original (Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Johnny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle), situating the action 20 years later. It’s clear that the second movie will feature all of the sex, drugs and late-night lunacy that made the first one so entrancing, but this time through that hazy lens that only time affords us: maturity (more or less).
