Over the weekend, rumors began circulating about the romantic status of the world’s most eligible bachelor, none other than England’s Prince Harry. (Cue: the shattering sound of a million dreams of becoming a princess, all dashed to pieces.)
The woman at the heart of this new hoopla? Meghan Markle, the 35-year-old American actress known for her role on the popular legal drama Suits. The California-born Markle also runs a lifestyle website, just launched a cost-conscious clothing collection, and is an advocate for the U.N. and the charity World Vision.
So far Markle has played coy about the unfolding drama around her romantic life, while Kensington Palace has also been silent on the matter. There are no photos of the two together. So beyond anonymously-sourced reports, what evidence do we actually have to link the two together?
They were both in Canada at the same time in May
Prince Harry was visiting Toronto for the Invictus Games, an event and cause near to his heart that supports disabled and wounded veterans. Markle films Suits in Toronto, too, and the pair reportedly met at a charity event.
Markle has made several visits to England recently
Although she spends most of her time in Canada filming Suits (and her family is located in California), Markle’s Instagram shows snaps of a number of trips across the pond during the course of the summer. (She also spent time in Italy, Spain, Greece, and New York.)
They might have the same bracelet
Super-sleuth internet spies noticed a blue beaded bracelet that both Harry and Meghan were photographed wearing this summer—although it’s nearly impossible to determine if it’s the same bracelet, or just a coincidental similar variety.
Markle has been receiving a lot of bouquets of flowers lately
Her Instagram is peppered with pictures of peonies—apparently her favorite bloom. She uses the hashtag “#spoiledrotten” liberally, suggesting that an admirer might be responsible for the bouquets. But who that mystery person is—it could be a friend, or an associate, after all—remains unknown.
Her most recent Instagrams are suitably flirty
Are spooning bananas a hidden message about her relationship status? Unclear.
Her half-sister has spoken out about the relationship
In an interview with The Sun, Markle’s half-sister Samantha suggested that the rumors are true. “My father has known for five months. When it came out, dad said: ‘I knew it was Harry, I just didn’t say anything,'” she told the tabloid. However Samantha admits she and Meghan have “barely spoken” since 2008, when the 51-year-old ex-actress was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
And in a recent interview, Markle called herself “the luckiest girl in the world”
But wait—that was not necessarily an allusion to her romantic life. Instead, she was discussing the many good things currently on her calendar: the release of her latest clothing collection for a Canadian retailer, filming of Suits seasons six and (soon) seven, an upcoming charity trip to India for World Vision, and spending time with family over the holidays. Could a relationship with the Prince play into her seeming bliss? Maybe, but then again, maybe not.
And in terms of hard facts, that’s about it. Only time will tell how this potential partnering will play out.
