Lane Bryant is known for its representation of women of all sizes, so it’s no surprise that they’d feature two outspoken, body-positive stars in their most recent ads. Danielle Brooks and Gabourey Sidibe modeled for Lane Bryant’s “#ThisBody Is Made To Shine” fall 2016 campaign, and Sidibe is still star-struck by her own photos.
“I’m STILL not over this,” she tweeted on Thursday. “Who knows how many subway posters I walked by hoping to one day feel as beautiful as the faces I passed.”
Sidibe told PeopleStyle earlier this month that the campaign was meaningful because it made a statement to the fashion and beauty industries. “I’m very proud to take part in something I’ve fallen victim to,” she said. “Plenty of times, I haven’t been able to wear certain clothes because they didn’t come in my size. It’s nice to be on the right side of the inclusion conversation.”
Danielle Brooks noted in the same interview that she and Sidibe are part of a major force toward Hollywood accepting different body types. “We want to do everything that we can to help push the needle in this world, especially I think Hollywood’s standards of beauty are messed up and they need to be shifted and change and somebody needs to go in there with a big old boulder and just knock it down,” she said. “I am just really grateful that I get to be a part of this movement in a big way….I go by my own standards, and I will be the voice of the curves for the women that feel like they can’t stand up for themselves.”
