Warning: This post contains potential spoilers for the seventh season of Game of Thrones.
At this point in the Game of Thrones universe, it seems likely that viewers have met every character alive who will have a major impact on the final outcome of the story. But what about one who is dead?
Cue the introduction of Devin Oliver, the singer who some fans are speculating is playing none other than Rhaegar Targaryen in the HBO drama’s seventh season.
As a quick recap, Rhaegar was the eldest son of the Mad King Aerys II and Rhaella Targaryen who was married to Elia Martell but had an affair with Lyanna Stark, resulting in the birth of Jon Snow. During Robert’s Rebellion, Robert Baratheon killed Rhaeger for allegedly kidnapping Lyanna — all before the events of the show began.
However, with Bran Stark’s newfound ability to journey into the past, it seems as though Rhaegar is bound to make an appearance at some point. So when the blond-haired Oliver took to Instagram to post a photo captioned, “I may or may not have made an appearance in Game Of Thrones season 7,” fans immediately began to discuss the possibility.
“Woah. I can totally see him as Rhaegar, he’s quite good looking and he’s a singer, so maybe we’ll hear Rhaegar sing?,” wrote Reddit user dcgp, alluding to the prince’s well-known talent for carrying a tune.
Although nothing has been confirmed, we can only hope that this is all leading to Jon discovering his true parentage — and then joining forces with Daenerys to save the world.
HBO did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
