Mandy Moore is making herself the priority after her divorce from singer Ryan Adams.
The actress, who stars on NBC’s new series This Is Us, opened up to People about about the end of her marriage to Adams, whom she wed in 2009. She said that her marriage had its “beautiful” moments, but that she ultimately she needed to focus on her own happiness.
“I wasn’t a participant in my own life for awhile,” Moore told the magazine. “I poured so much of myself into my personal life and when that wasn’t as fruitful as I hoped it would be and I extricated myself from that situation, I was able to realize I wasn’t honoring myself and my dreams and what I wanted in life.”
She said that though the divorce was difficult, it helped her become a better person.
“You couldn’t pay me to go back five or ten years ago,” she told People. “Having gone through trials and tribulations has brought me to this place today. I feel so much lighter. And I’m growing into the best version of myself.”
