Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles was among the athletes whose medical records were hacked and released, and the World Anti-Doping Agency’s documents revealed that the athlete was approved to take a drug that is typically prohibited, but did not say what that drug was.
USA Gymnastics released a statement reassuring the public that Biles had followed the correct protocol, and Biles posted her own statements on Twitter explaining the situation.
“I have ADHD and have taken medicine for it since I was a kid,” Biles wrote. “Please know, I believe in clean sport, have always followed the rules, and will continue to do so as fair play is critical to sport and is very important to me.”
In a follow-up tweet, Biles wrote, “Having ADHD, and taking medicine for it is nothing to be ashamed of nothing that I’m afraid to let people know.”
