Lea Michele says she’s never been happier with her body.
The Scream Queens actress discussed her approach to wellness in an interview with People published on Tuesday, saying that she’s focused on health, not size.
“It’s so important for me to stress that being healthy is not about being a gym rat. It’s not about being 90 lbs.,” Michele told People. “This is really how I live every single day.”
The actress, who starred on Fox’s Glee—a show that has been both hailed and criticized for its treatment of body image — has spoken out about feeling insecure about her body before. She told GQ in 2010 that she fought off pressure from people within the industry who told her she needed to get a nose job, and spoke about not always feeling secure about her body in an interview with Women’s Health Magazine in the same year
But Michele told People that she was able to find a routine, which includes daily workouts and a vegan diet (with “cheat” days), that makes her feel mentally and physically strong.
“I’ve never loved my body more than I do right now,” Michele told People. “And I’m so grateful that I feel that way.”
