“Too many perky white males are contributing to a lack of diversity on our screens,” begins an ad called You Never Lamb Alone.
According to Australian agricultural news portal Sheep Central, this is Meat & Livestock Australia’s Spring Lamb campaign, positioning lamb as “the meat that doesn’t discriminate” because it’s accepted across several cultures and religions.
Created by an Australian agency, the Monkeys, the ad begins with “perky white male” narrator Luke Jacobz morphing into a perky Bengali-Australian narrator Arka Das (still male), who then proceeds to walk us through the broad landscape of Australia’s diverse ethnicities, cultures, nationalities, hair colors, skin types and sexualities.
The 1.36-minute video includes cameos from several high-profile indigenous Australians, including Olympian runner Cathy Freeman, National Rugby League player Greg Inglis and model Samantha Harris.
