Gabby Douglas is on the road to recovery.
On Tuesday, the Olympic gold medalist revealed the diagnosis that caused her to miss Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards with her Final Five teammates.
“Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that I’m doing ok! I had a complication from a prior injury that caused a cyst to grow on a bone in my mouth,” Douglas, 20, posted on Twitter. “Got it removed and feeling much better now! Thanks for all your concerns and prayers and HUGE thank you to the doctors that have taken care of me these last four days!”
Unfortunately for Gabby, she must remove her wisdom teeth next.
The gymnast first announced her medical condition on social media Sunday, revealing that she was out of the hospital and resting in New York City. However, Douglas’ publicist told PEOPLE that she was returned to hospital again that same night for a serious infection.
“Gabby is back in the hospital tonight being treated for a seriously infected past mouth injury,” Douglas’ publicist told PEOPLE. “She continues to have deep swelling and adverse reactions to medications.”
Later this week, Douglas has a scheduled appearance on Thursday’s episode ofThe Late Late Show.
