Even Selena Gomez needs a break. The singer just announced that she is taking it easy due to side effects from Lupus, which include anxiety and panic attacks.
In an exclusive statement to People, Gomez explains the purpose behind her break. She says, “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
Gomez, who received chemotherapy for Lupus in 2013, wants to focus maintaining her health and happiness. She explains the best way to do so is “to take some time off.”
She thanked her fans for all their support along the way, and hopes this will encourage others to seek the time and rest they need. Gomez says, “I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
