Don’t Breathe Dominates Late Summer Box Office With $26.1 Million

Late summer horror movie Don’t Breathe inhaled about $26.1 million this weekend, nearly tripling the $10 million production costs.

The film follows a group of thieves whose attempt to rob a blind man’s goes awry when he pits them in a cat-and-mouse-game. The thriller pushed Suicide Squad, which took in $12.1 million this week, to second place at the box office.

Other new releases, including Mechanic: Resurrection and Southside with You debuted modestly, making $7.5 million and $3.1 million, respectively. Kubo and the Two Strings, which made $7.8 million and Sausage Party, which made $7.7 million, took third and fourth place at the box office this weekend, with Pete’s Dragon at fifth, with $7.3 million.
