British actor Tom Hiddleston, boyfriend of Taylor Swift and the Internet, just won an award. And it’s not just any award: he was named this year’s male “Rear of the Year.”
The 35-year-old actor garnered the unusual honor thanks in part to a risqué derriere-baring scene in his spy series The Night Manager, which became a major cult hit. (That nudity was, incidentally, cut from the U.S. version of the show). It was a popular enough moment that his bottom even received the honor of its very own hashtag, #Hiddlesbum. Hiddleston later addressed the controversy in an interview with W Magazine.
“I’m here to tell you that my butt is not dangerous,” he said.
But apparently, it did give him the edge in the Rear of the Year competition.
“The votes flooded in when Tom revealed his well-toned rear on our TV screens,” the site explains.
The “Rear of the Year” title has been awarded annually since 1981, and anyone can submit an entry into the competition, but only the winners are announced, judged by an undetermined process. It’s a “light hearted award,” according to the website, and is meant to celebrate “prize-winning rear assets.”
Hiddleston is in good company, as previous winners (in the male category) have included actor Daniel Radcliffe and singer-songwriter Olly Murrs.
As for the ladies: Americans with famous posteriors need not apply, as this is a Brits-only competition. This year’s female trophy winner was actress Jennifer Metcalfe.
