Portrait of the Justice As a Young Woman

Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently came under fire for her critical comments about Donald Trump’s candidacy. Although she expressed regret, the Supreme Court Justice is no stranger to verbal combat.

In a forthcoming children’s book, I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark, Debbie Levy depicts the Justice’s life as “one disagreement after another.” (Ginsburg has seen the book but did not endorse it.) After a series of conflicts with teachers, classmates and courtroom foes, Ginsburg joins the Supreme Court and meets her favorite antagonist: fellow Justice Antonin Scalia.

The Ginsburg of I Dissent is a crusader, but she has a soft side: after she and Scalia vehemently disagree in court, they go parasailing in France and elephant riding in India. (Nonfiction!) In a true meeting of the minds, politics just doesn’t matter.
