In Bachelor Nation, no words are more sacred than “I’m here for the right reasons.” Accuse anyone of otherwise, and chaos ensues.
But now that this season’s The Bachelorette is down to the final four, it will take more than professions of love and perfectly coiffed hair to win the final rose. Astrology may hold the key for figuring out who is the best fit.
This season’s bachelorette, JoJo Fletcher, is a Sagittarius, a fire sign. That means she enjoys her independence, but she also loves attention. She thrives in lively discussions and isn’t afraid of arguments. Her Sagittarian curiosity is what’s compelling her to always want to get to know her boys on a “deeper level.” Sagittarians are the zodiac’s philosophers, after all.
Sagittarians are also endlessly adventurous and love to travel, so the Bachelor traveling-circus lifestyle is a great fit for JoJo. In a match, she needs someone who won’t put out her fire, someone who will let her shine while providing the stability for a lifetime of fun and passion.
JoJo has sifted through a range of potential suitors, including Evan, the erectile dysfunction specialist, Daniel, the “Canadian,” and Nick, the guy who dressed up like Santa Claus. Now she’s set to visit the final four men—Jordan, Robby, Chase and Luke—in their hometowns in this week’s episode.
How closely do their stars align with hers?
JORDAN RODGERS: Virgo
Virgos are the perfectionists of the zodiac. While they often come off as nitpicky or critical of others, Virgos mean well, and they speak their mind without sugarcoating.
Jordan Rodgers seems to love his wine, and he, too, is like a good vintage. He just keeps getting better with time. He’s been Jojo’s clear favorite since night one: he won the beloved First Impression Rose and snagged her first kiss. And was there anything more Virgo than Jordan, while on a one-on-one date at a Argentine vineyard, picking up a bunch of grapes and picking off an imperfect one before feeding them to JoJo?
Like most emotionally reserved Virgos, Jordan has skeletons in the closet: namely, the mysterious lack of relationship with his more famous brother, Aaron Rodgers. Virgos are pedestal builders, and we’ll likely see in the hometown date the struggle Jordan has between being vulnerable about his family dynamic (a must if you’re going to win the game) and showing JoJo how much he cares for her. Can he open up to her without fear of losing her?
As a Sagittarius, JoJo is willing to speak her mind. But Sagittarians follow their own moral code, and there’s nothing she seems to hate more than guys who throw each other under the bus. When one contestant, James Taylor, acting like a summer camp counselor, asserted that Jordan is “entitled,” JoJo made it clear that she’s going to make up her own mind. James got the boot and Jordan is here to stay.
The most famous Virgo-Sagittarius couple is Jay Z and Beyonce, which seem like big shoes for Jordan and Jojo to fill. This is a relationship that will take a lot of work to get right, but we’re optimistic. It’s worth noting that Aaron Rodgers, like JoJo, is a Sagittarius, so her tendency to want the limelight could be a trigger for Jordan, especially as he is working so diligently to carve his own path right now. If she’s aware of his sensitivities—and his aversion to addressing them–this will be a great pair.
ROBBY HAYES: Capricorn
Capricorns, the mountain goat, are driven to reach the top of whatever their chosen field is and be the best at it. While Capricorns care deeply about family and friends, their professional ambition can often make them seem like they aren’t prioritizing home life. Like Virgo, Capricorn is an earth sign, and is not expressive with emotions and feelings.
With all due respect to the great Capricorn Nicolas Cage, Capricorns aren’t always the best actors. Robby Hayes’ suave moves are a blatant reminder that he knows how to play the game. In his profession of love, he somewhat soullessly tells JoJo he is in love with her, but his gaze seems to suggest he’s seeing money bags awaiting him in the show’s summer spinoff Bachelor in Paradise.
Capricorns have their eyes on the prize, and Robby has a big vision. He knows what he wants, and he’ll be meticulous about getting it—“it” likely not being JoJo but the fallback plan for all former sports stars: reality show fame. During a group date in Argentina, Robby, Chase, James and JoJo hung out in their hotel room because of severe weather conditions (rain), so they had a “slumber party” with fun games like a “massage train” and truth and dare (a.k.a. “watch James Taylor suffocate on french fries”). With not much competition, Robby, unsurprisingly, came away with the rose.
So is Robby the frontrunner? He is for his own dream, maybe. But not for JoJo. Sagittarians don’t take flack from anyone, and they’re not afraid to say what they’re thinking. Robby has tunnel vision, and JoJo doesn’t have time for schemers. As a Sagittarius, she values fun and adventure. Robby’s need for security and professional success could make him the perfect partner to finance her next vacation, or, on the flip side, could make him the wet blanket to her more lofty interests and plans. It’s clear that her fiery wrath will cut through his act very soon.
CHASE MCNARY: Pisces
Pisces is a water sign, and the last sign in the zodiac cycle. They perhaps feel the most intensely, as they aren’t just attuned to their own emotions, but also the emotions of the world around them. This incredible empathy makes them intense, but also extremely generous. They can come off as kind of spacey, but that’s because they’re dreamers and romantics. When they’re overwhelmed, Pisces swim away, and they don’t come back.
Sensitive Pisces can come off as shy, which is perhaps why Chase McNary—who comes across as a cardboard cutout of the high school jock who harbors repressed dreams of being cast the lead in the play—had fallen into the “Which bearded blonde is he again?” category for the past few weeks. The whole competition has probably weighed heavily on him, as Pisces are creators, not competitors. Pisces are symbolized as two fish swimming in opposite directions, which may explain why even though Chase seemed to have been lacking in the emotions department, he recently flipped 180 degrees when he told JoJo he could see a future with her.
Pisces are sweet, but they are easily burned. He’s not the one to stand up for himself; instead he’ll swim away. This is especially difficult with a Sagittarius, who can be like a giant ball of fire and barrel through life unintentionally burning everything in its path. But when it works, it works because Pisces and Sagittarius both love to have fun and get a little wild.

LUKE PELL: Scorpio
Scorpio, like Pisces, is a water sign. They are mysterious, and don’t let people in without fully trusting them. If you wrong a Scorpio, his scorpion stinger will hit you back with 10 times the force.
The handsome, leather jacket-wearing Luke Pell, with his slow Texas drawl, has his smolder down pat. But, as he showed on his recent one-on-one date with JoJo in Argentina, he’s deeper than merely the sweet Texan farm boy. Luke says he has been taming horses since he was 8, which has taught him a lot about, you know, people’s psychology and whatnot. His time as a platoon leader in the Army was lightly referenced with a weirdly sensual skeet shooting lesson. Who can resist that? Definitely not the curious troublemaker Sagittarius.
Ultimately, Scorpio and Sagittarius can work if Scorpio can handle Sagittarian wildness and independence and if Sagittarius can withstand Scorpio’s emotional intensity. In relationships, Scorpio holds really tight, and Sagittarius needs to run free and explore. When Scorpio retaliates, Sagittarius moves right on. But with effort and mutual understanding, Sagittarius can really help Scorpio let loose, and Scorpio can make Sagittarius more focused and committal.
And the stars are aligned for …
Astrologically, this is a tricky scenario that JoJo has created for herself. She’s picking the man she’ll “spend the rest of her life with” among two water signs and two earth signs, which are not traditionally the most compatible with a fire sign. Will she veer on the side of practicality and having the material possessions she wants in life with the earth signs, Jordan and Robby? Or will she choose the more emotional and sexual life with the water signs, Chase and Luke?
The irony is that JoJo had in her midst the perfect matchup: Chad Johnson, who she let go in week 3. Chad, the genius or villain, depending on how much you like deli meat and sweet potatoes, is a Leo, a fire sign.
Sagittarius and Leo tend to be a great match, as they’re both fire signs. They’re creative, fun loving people with big egos and big hearts, but without the oversensitivity of water signs or seriousness of earth signs. Leo can act out when Sag doesn’t pay enough attention (which she never can), so it makes sense that Chad turned to suitcase-lifting and hoarding the roast beef.
So who’s Jojo going to pick? The signs are all pointing toward Jordan. Is it a perfect astrological match? Not really. But if Bey and Jay can make it, so can Jo and Jor.
