Rich Homie Quan was tapped to fill in for The Notorious B.I.G.’s part in the Junior M.A.F.I.A. track, “Get Money,” in honor of Lil’ Kim at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors Monday night. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t go as well as it could have.
Though he strutted on stage in a Biggie-like Coogi sweater, Quan struggled to keep up, forgetting some lyrics. The rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday to apologize and explain there was a technical snafu — and some butterflies in his stomach.
“I assure you that I never intended to disrespect Biggie Smalls. I have long respected his work and his contribution to the rap game,” he writes. “I greatly apologize not only to Biggie Smalls, but also to all of my fans and to New York.”
The Hip Hop Honors event recognized pioneering women of the genre, honoring Kim, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, and Salt-N-Pepa.
