A Florida man who accidentally shot and killed his 14-year-old son at a shooting range says he accepts full responsibility for his death.
“The gun didn’t kill my boy. I did,” William Clayton Brumby, 64, told CNN.
Brumby was trying to find a shell casing in the back of his shirt when he accidentally pulled the trigger, killing 14-year-old Stephen Brumby. As of Monday, there were no charges pending in the teen’s death, CNN reported.
The family kept guns at home for self-defense, and Brumby took his children—including Stephen, who loved tennis, bass fishing and playing piano—to High Noon Gun Range for target shooting.
“Every round in the gun is your responsibility,” Brumby told CNN. “When it fires you need to stand to account for it.”
