A former contestant on the Mexican version of The Voice died Saturday after he was shot in the head in Chicago while celebrating his birthday.
Alejandro “Jano” Fuentes, 45, was shot in the head three times on Thursday and succumbed to his injuries, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office told the Associated Press. The Chicago singer had appeared on the singing competition in 2011.
It’s the second high-profile shooting death of a former contestant on The Voice in a week. Christina Grimmie, 22, who appeared on the U.S. version of the show, was fatally shot last Friday as she signed autographs for fans after a performance in Florida, police said. She came in third on show in 2014. The gunman killed himself shortly after.
A gunman shot Fuentes while the singer was sitting inside a car with friends, although it’s unclear why, according to the AP. Police said they had no suspects in the attack.
