President Obama will arrive on Thursday in Orlando, Florida to meet the families of victims in Sunday’s shooting at a gay nightclub that left 49 people dead. Obama will meet with victims’ families and first responders and “stand in solidarity with the Orlando community,” the White House said. Vice President Joe Biden will join the President on the trip.
The shooting has provoked strong responses from Democrats on gun control, and Republicans have agreed to hold a vote on gun control measures following a 15-hour filibuster led by Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy. President Obama has repeatedly called for new gun control laws after previous mass shootings, including the shooting in Orlando.
The President is expected to arrive at 12:30 p.m. and the live stream will be available on this page.
