After 49 people were shot to death at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday morning, Mara Wilson – who appeared as Robin Williams’ daughter in Mrs. Doubtfire and played the title character in Matilda – opened up on Twitter about how the LGBTQ community “has always felt like home.”
Wilson first posted a photo of herself at a gay club taken when she was 18. “I have never had a better experience at a club than I did then,” she tweeted. In a later tweet, she said that she “*used* to identify as mostly straight” before adding, “I’ve embraced the Bi/Queer label lately.”
She went on to say that she’s “a 2” on the Kinsey scale, which is defined by the Kinsey Institute as “predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual.”
“I know a lot of people don’t like the Kinsey scale, and that is fine by me,” she wrote. “But I’m pragmatic at heart and find comfort in numbers.”
Aside from Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire, Wilson also starred in 1994’s Miracle on 34th Street. Although she’s more focused on writing than acting these days, she did make a brief cameo in a recent episode of Broad City.
