In an emotional speech at the 2016 Tony Awards, Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry opened up about her struggle to have children, comparing the reward to winning the Tony for best featured actress in a musical.
Goldsberry, who plays Angelica Schuyler in the hit musical, ended her speech saying, “If you know anything about me you know I’ve spent the last 10 years just trying to have children,” she said. “God gave me Benjamin, he gave me Brielle, and he still gave me this.”
Goldsberry’s win was one in a series of possible awards for the hit musical, which may set records at the award show on Sunday.
