Maisie Williams doesn’t just play a badass on Game of Thrones; she’s just as vigilant about standing up for what she believes in in real life. The 19-year-old actress took to Twitter on Monday to call out the Daily Mail for a headline that focused more on what she wore to a benefit than the actual fundraising she did for it.
On Saturday, Williams attended the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Summer Masquerade Ball, a fundraiser that helps fight child abuse.
Seeing as how this was a formal occasion and not the Hall of Faces, Williams wore a floor-length white lace dress with a high neckline, which the Daily Mail dubbed as “daring,” going so far as to make a reaching headline about her so-called “risqué” look: “Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams goes braless in sheer lace dress and quirky headpiece at charity masquerade.”
Williams, however, graciously offered an alternative and non-objectifying headline that focused on her actions as opposed to her chest, along with a screenshot of the original headline and two choice emoji (the frog and the teacup) for conveying that she was not here for the sexualizing text.
Arya Stark, foe of objectification everywhere.
