Seattle’s ‘Man in Tree’ Sent to a Psychiatric Hospital

A man who is facing criminal charges after he spent more than 24 hours perched atop a Seattle tree in March is being sent to a psychiatric hospital after he was ordered incompetent to stand trial.

Cody Lee Miller made national headlines when he climbed up the giant sequoia tree downtown and pelted police officers with pine cones, branches and an apple as they tried to coax him down to safety. He was charged with first-degree malicious mischief and third-degree assault for the stand-off and has been held on $50,000 bail, KOMO News reports.

Miller is now headed to Western State Hospital in Washington for a 45-day evaluation before another competency hearing on July 11, according to the news outlet.
