The hospitalization over the weekend of singer Anthony Kiedis, for what are described as “complications from the intestinal flu,” has forced the Red Hot Chili Peppers to cancel a performance at California’s iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank on May 17.
Rolling Stone reports that Kiedis and the group were performing in Irvine, California over the weekend, when Kiedis complained of intense stomach pain and was taken to a nearby medical facility, forcing the cancellation of the show.
“We live to rock,” bass player Flea told the crowd, “but unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and we need to deal with it, so we’re unable tonight.”
Kiedis is expected to make a full recovery, according to a band statement.
