Khloé Kardashian is an open book, and now she’s ready to explain why she Photoshopped that picture of herself.
In a new post on her website and app, Kardashian revealed the surprising reason she edited the appearance of her leg in an impressive mirror selfie showing off her abs in February: It’s because of how “f—ed up” her knees are due to a serious car accident she was in years ago.
“Whenever I post a picture of my legs on Instagram, everyone comments on how f—ed up my knees look. It’s because I’ve had reconstructive surgery, you a—holes!” she wrote. “My right leg is an inch and a half thinner than my left because my muscles deteriorated and never recovered.”
“The reason I’ve had so many of these surgeries – and always wear a knee brace for my workouts – is because I was in a car accident when I was 16,” she explained. “To this day, I remember the exact streets (Ventura Blvd. and Coldwater Canyon).”
According to Kardashian, 31, she was speeding and the other car ran a stop sign.
“I was was wearing my seatbelt but the strap was under my armpit,” she continued. “I was in a small Mercedes and it compacted in the wreck. My head and upper body went through the windshield and my legs were stuck under the steering wheel.”
“I still remember hitting the other car, feeling the car spinning, and hitting a pole,” she added. “I had knee surgery the day of my accident and a couple more after that. Lord, help me! So next time you see me in a knee brace, you know why!”
After the accident, Kardashian was on crutches for six months and wore a leg brace that went from her ankle to her upper thigh.
She also had “a neck brace, burns all over my body and had to take showers sitting in a chair,” she wrote. “[My best friends] Malika and Khadijah [Haqq] would literally help me shower. They also did my hair so that I wouldn’t have to wash it as often. That’s how I first started wearing cornrows!”
When it comes to the Instagram post and the Photoshop controversy that followed after eagle-eyed commenters noticed the warped door frame, resulting in Kardashian then re-posting the unretouched image, she says she was trying to fix the size of her right thigh.
“It’s funny because everyone made a big stink about this Instagram photo below because I Photoshopped it. Yes, I did Photoshop it, but I was trying to make my thinner leg look bigger to match my other leg!!!” she said. “All I want are big, thick thighs and I hate how skinny my legs are.”
And that wasn’t the first time the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has been open about altered images of herself: Last year, she shared an unretouched photo from her Complex magazine shoot to slam her haters.
“This one is for all the troll haters out there that cannot seem to give me an ounce of credit for my daily workouts!” she wrote. “The image on the left is an unretouched photo from the actual camera on the day of the shoot. The image on the right is the retouched photo. Yes skin is smooth and shadows are removed but I still think I look good on the left image. Flaws and all … hi hater!!!”
