Kesha’s legal battle with Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald), whom the singer alleged drugged and raped her, may be winding down (in April, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich dismissed all but one of Kesha’s counterclaims against the producer). But the singer continues to raise awareness about sexual assault and rape: On Saturday, Kesha performed a rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Til it Happens to You” at the Humane Society’s To the Rescue! Los Angeles 2016 Gala. Kesha dedicated the performance to “every man, woman, child and animal that has ever been abused.”
Watch the performance:
Kesha performed the powerful song, which Lady Gaga co-wrote about her own experience of being raped as a teenager and which later earned an Oscar nomination for its use in the 2015 documentary Hunting Ground, which tackles the issue of sexual assault on college campuses. After Kesha’s emotional performance, the audience rose to their feet and gave Kesha a standing ovation.
