Scandal Just Aired the Best Breakup Speech of All Time

2 minute read

This week’s episode of Scandal took the show’s dedication to female empowerment to a whole new level: Vice President Susan Ross (played Artemis Pebdani) breaks up with her cheating boyfriend turned momentary fiancé, David Rosen (played by Joshua Malina), after she finds out that he’d done something behind her back that ultimately convinces her to drop out of the presidential race.

“Susan, please, I love you, I think you’re amazing,” Rosen says, sending Ross into the #BossMode that Rhimes’ characters are so famous for embodying:

“I know that. I know I’m amazing. I’m witty and cute and funny and smarter than you. I’m incredible, David. I’m gonna change the damn world, which is why this is over. I know, but you don’t. I can’t be with someone who doesn’t believe in me, whether I’m the President of the United States or some substitute teacher in suburbia somewhere. I believe in myself, and I need to be with someone who feels the same way.”

The rant leaves Rosen speechless, and she shows him out of her office, saying, “You can go now, ’cause guess what? You just got dumped by the Vice President of the United States of America, and she has work to do.”
