After Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz announced the suspension of his campaign Tuesday, comedian Samantha Bee was quick to comment: “Shouldn’t #TedCruz have been forced to carry his unviable campaign to term?” Bee tweeted, referencing Cruz’s strict anti-abortion beliefs.
The Full Frontal host has been known for her sharp deconstructions of political events, and she’s especially outspoken on reproductive rights. Her “Abortion, Texas-style” segment, which has more than 1 million views on YouTube, features her saying, “I speak with the authority of one who has a uterus, and I guess that’s why I think that you’re the wrongiest wrong-headedest wrong person,” to state Rep. Dan Flynn (R), who helped write the HB2 laws restricting access to abortion providers.
Bee also shared her earlier coverage of Cruz, reminding her audience of why she thinks he is “super-duper detestable.”
In the video, she rolls through criticisms of Cruz made by his former classmates, fellow politicians and more. Bee concludes by saying that “the only people who can tolerate Cruz are the ones who can’t tolerate anyone else,” showing clips of politicians speaking out against gay marriage.
The late-night host ended her string of tweets on a sarcastic note:
