After legendary performer Prince died Thursday at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, many fans mourning his death noted that the occasion was appropriately rainy and used the weather to pay homage to Prince and one of his greatest hits, “Purple Rain.”
The song was the title track on Prince’s 1984 album, which was one of the biggest selling albums of all time.

Others recalled Prince’s iconic performance of the song on another rainy occasion, during a downpour for the SuperBowl XLI halftime show in 2007.
Bruce Rodgers, the halftime show production designer, later said Prince had no problem with the rain on that day.
“Prince was like, ‘Can you make it rain harder?'” he said.
