A man who perched in a Seattle tree for more than 24 hours last week caused nearly $8,000 in damages to the giant sequoia, investigators said.
Cody Lee Miller, 28, had made national headlines when he climbed up the 90-foot downtown tree and pelted police officers with pine cones, branches and an apple as they tried to coax him down to safety. His day-long standoff caused $7,800 in damages, the New York Times reports, citing a Seattle tree expert’s appraisal from court documents. “The damage to the tree was extensive,” the report said.
Miller was charged Monday with first-degree malicious mischief and third-degree assault. It’s unclear if he’ll have to pay for the damages.
