George Clooney has written a letter in support of Hillary Clinton, praising the Democratic presidential candidate as “a voice of tolerance and experience” and “the only grown-up in the room” during the 2016 election.
In the letter, sent in an email Monday by the Clinton campaign, the actor and humanitarian calls her “the one consistent voice” in “all of this clutter.”
Clooney also criticized Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, not mentioning the candidate by name but referencing his rhetoric and “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan.
“If you listen to the loudest voices out there today, you’d think we’re a country that hates Mexicans, hates Muslims, and thinks that committing war crimes is the best way to make America great again,” he wrote. “The truth is that the only thing that would prevent America from being great would be to empower these voices.”
Clooney added, “As this primary process continues, Hillary could soon have an insurmountable delegate lead and with that, the Democratic nomination. That would then make her the only grown-up in the room. And if ever there was a time for a grown-up, that time is now.”
Earlier this month, Clooney slammed Trump in an interview with The Guardian, calling him an “opportunist” and a “xenophobic fascist.”
Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, are hosting a fundraiser for Clinton at their Los Angeles home on April 16, PEOPLE reports. In Monday’s email, he invited supporters to enter a contest for a chance to join them at the event.
