Sarah Michelle Gellar will be up to her old tricks again: The actress is set to reprise her role as the conniving Kathryn Merteuil in NBC’s pilot for Cruel Intentions, the TV sequel to the guilty-pleasure teen melodrama that graced the big screen in 1999.
Picking up a decade and a half after the film left off, the new Cruel Intentions finds Kathryn trying to establish dominion over both Valmont International and Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of her late stepbrother and a woman she wronged long ago.
Gellar will remain a series regular should the pilot get picked up. Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the original Cruel Intentions, is helming the pilot.
Gellar celebrated the news on Instagram, posting a then-and-now photo and adding a quintessential Kathryn quote from the movie: “Everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way.”
