It took less than a day for Zayn Malik to respond to criticism about the artwork on his debut solo album, Mind of Mine.
After unveiling the cover on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, many noted the similarities to the cover of Lil Wayne’s 2008 album Tha Carter III. Both covers feature the respective artists as babies sporting tattoos.
On Thursday afternoon, Malik tweeted about the artwork. “I’m not tryna be no rapper,” he wrote, “my album is me a child.”
He also asked people to keep their minds open to his art. “Use your brain, appreciate art don’t discriminate what you don’t understand,” he wrote.
During his Fallon appearance, Malik debuted his new ballad, “It’s You.” Mind of Mine drops March 25.
