An Iowa home has become a “pilgrimage site” for Donald Trump supporters after its owner erected a giant poster of the bombastic billionaire in his backyard.
Both fans and critics of the Republican front-runner have come to gawk at the giant sign in West Des Moines, homeowner George Davey told the Des Moines Register. “It just stops people,” said Davey, who put up the sign in November and even installed lights to make sure it’s visible at night.
The 4-by-8-foot poster shows Trump with his mouth open mid-speech and his eyebrows furrowed. It’s attracted widespread attention, both positive and negative, Davey said. Vandals have thrown chocolate syrup on the sign and spray-painted a “sad face” on it, he told AFP from his home on Monday.
Davey, a computer engineer, said he’s “always been a little bit of a Trump fan” because the presidential candidate “says what’s on his mind” and “doesn’t worry about being censored.”
“That’s the kind of guy we need. Kind of like Putin,” he told AFP, referring to the Russian president.
