Bernie Sanders Reports Raising Over $20 Million in January

1 minute read

Bernie Sanders has hauled in more than $20 million in donations over the last month in his bid to win the Democratic nomination, his campaign said Sunday ahead of the Iowa caucuses.

The Vermont senator’s campaign team said it raised almost all of the funds in January from small online contributions — an average of $27 a donation.

Sanders received more than 770,000 donations in the month, which helped push the total amount of individual contributions for his entire campaign past the 3.25 million mark, according to his campaign.

“The numbers we’ve seen since Jan. 1 put our campaign on pace to beat Secretary Clinton’s goal of $50 million in the first quarter of 2016,” Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, said in a statement. “Working Americans chipping in a few dollars each month are not only challenging but beating the greatest fundraising machine ever assembled.”

Hillary Clinton’s campaign said earlier this month that it raised $37 million since the beginning of October.
