Duke University suspended all sorority activities after a student was hospitalized because of an alcohol-related incident.
Officials announced Wednesday that the university was taking the incident seriously and that student affairs staff will meet with sorority chapters to review activities and ensure compliance with Duke policies. The suspension was announced on the university’s Twitter account.
The announcement stems from a new sorority member who was hospitalized overnight Tuesday. The student is listed in critical condition, according to local news station WNCN, but Moneta says that he expects a full recovery.
According to the university, the student was participating in activities related to the most recent rush and bid periods, where girls are invited to join sorority chapters. Duke did not release the name of the sorority involved in the incident.
