Imagine a resort with every luxury–except heat. That’s the idea behind Hôtel de Glace, Quebec City’s annual take on the ice hotels popular in Scandinavia. This year, 30,000 tons of tightly packed snow were used to sculpt 44 guest rooms and a variety of larger spaces; they’re adorned with tables, chairs and even glasses made of ice, so patrons can sip cocktails while braving the 25°F (–4°C) interior chill. For $137+, they can even spend a night in a sleeping bag atop a frozen bed. “It takes everyone’s breath away,” says CEO Jacques Desbois, referring to the hotel’s beauty–or its temperature.
